    With creativity, commercial acumen and a sharp instinct for disciplinary trends, Julia has held senior editorial roles across independent and corporate publishing. Her expertise spans journals, books and digital resources, with strengths in commissioning, portfolio development, stakeholder management, contract negotiation, and market and competitor analysis.

  • Minty Colquhoun

    With an extensive background in strategic marketing and planning, Minty specialises in providing market research and data analysis services (including online surveys) to academic publishers. A long-time Maverick member, Minty continues to produce useful, insightful results for multiple projects enabling clients of all sizes to make important evidence-decisions with confidence.

  • Martin Davies

    Martin has 35 years’ experience of working in the publishing industry. He has worked in a range of sectors including professional, academic, educational publishing. He has developed textbook programmes for the school, FE and HE sectors in both domestic and international markets and the development of professional health sciences book and journal products. Martin has in-depth knowledge of working collaboratively with membership organisations, and running RFP and tendering exercises both in the UK and internationally.

  • Jenny Drey

    A long-standing member of the Maverick marketing team, Jenny Drey draws on 30 years' experience  across the academic, professional and trade publishing sectors. Jenny delivers expert marketing strategy, market research and content creation to a diverse international client base. Fluent in French and German, she has led research projects across the UK, US and Europe and authored a wide range of content for major global publishers.

    Her professional experience encompasses Chapman & Hall, Elsevier, Dorling Kindersley and Macdonald (MCC), as well as the legal and entertainment sectors. Jenny is known for combining creativity with clear thinking to turn complex ideas into practical, effective marketing.

  • George Farina

    George contributes extensive international experience as an STM business development executive, having worked in and managed teams in North America, Europe and Asia. He focuses on developing new client relationships and managing projects with the support of Maverick’s global team of experienced publishing professionals.

  • Gareth Jarrett

    Gareth has 31 years of publishing experience gained in operations roles across the industry, including with Penguin Group and Taylor & Francis where he was most recently Director of Book Publishing Services. He served as a Director at Book Industry Communications from 2021-2025 and since 2022 he has worked as a consultant helping printers, publishers and others across the books supply chain.

  • Mert Kose

    Mert Köse is an STM publishing specialist and scholar of new media. He works with international publishers and societies on bibliometric analysis, journal development, and market research. With experience in M&A assessments and editorial strategy, he provides data-driven guidance across global scholarly publishing ecosystems.

  • John Lavender

    John has had wide experience in scholarly, technical and professional publishing covering many areas of senior management (CEO, SVP and VP) and strategic development responsibility. He has worked mainly in the UK and USA, but has worldwide experience and contacts and is well known in the industry. He has an excellent record in running an effective, profitable, book and journal program, backed up by experience in running a successful sales and marketing strategy. For the last 10 years he has been consulting for a range of commercial and university press publishers and for vendors supplying services to the industry.

  • Stephen Laverick

    Stephen has extensive experience in digital publishing solutions, specialising in robust, scalable and efficient XML workflows across publishers of all sizes. He has led technical development teams, development of author service solutions and promoted ethical standards across the UK and China. He is also active in community-driven industry initiatives.

  • Alison Maclean

    Alison is a dynamic publishing operations leader with international experience turning strategy into results across the scholarly, trade and professional sectors. She combines insight and analysis to make publishing processes smarter, smoother and more scalable. Alison believes work is most rewarding when there’s true collaboration and a big dose of shared laughter.

  • Rob McPherson

    Rob has worked extensively in the  Scholarly, Trade and Distribution industries. Equally experienced in both business operations and technology, he has also worked overseas for many years setting up offshore development centres

    As a project manager, his resume includes ERP, WMS, e-commerce, and inventory migration, while his portfolio of consultancy work includes RFP creation, feasibility studies, lost revenue recovery, cost-saving analyses and post-implementation reviews.

  • David Saracco

    David Saracco is a U.S.-based senior publishing consultant with decades of experience leading digital transformation. He has held senior roles at Elsevier, Impelsys, codeMantra, RSI, and Vantage Labs AI, shaping strategy, sales, and building platforms across STM, education, society, and trade publishing, with deep expertise in e-products, workflows, and vendor partnerships.

  • Emma Thomas

    Emma Thomas has three decades of experience working with large academic publishers - at Maverick she works on projects that involve business process optimisation, large-scale change and transformation, AI tools for peer review, and change communications. She is also an accredited coach with the EMCC, experienced facilitator, and Thinking Environment practitioner. 

  • Megan Toogood

    Megan has extensive experience designing and deploying marketing campaigns for publishers, societies and the technologies that support them. With a deep understanding of audiences in the academic and membership organisation space, she is skilled at messaging, positioning and communications.

  • Amanda Weaver

    Amanda is an MBA educated, strategically aware senior publishing industry professional, with extensive experience in  B2B, STM and Professional Association publishing. Her strengths include: journal portfolio management and development, e-learning for professionals, standards and good practice publishing, society magazines and conferences,  developing and launching digital products, running RFP and tender exercises, and specifying and implementing new publishing systems.
